Theology 101

16-theology-101Do you love the one, true God? Then you are a theologian. Who are you created to be? A response that fits with the Bible will be theological. The same is true for discussions of sin, salvation, and discipleship.

An earlier thinker said that Christian theology is, “what is believed everywhere, in all places by everyone.” In this series, Theology 101, we are going to explore the foundations of our faith. This series is immensely practical. To act rightly a Christian must think rightly. Right theology always produces a passionate love for God and the world he loves.

Our vision and mission at ECEMC is based upon right-thinking about God and His purposes that has been tested and found to sit well with reality. Come and be fed so that you might offer truth and grace where you live out your theology.

Holy Smoke

16-holy-smoke-projectorLet’s be honest; most of us have started a Bible reading plan in January only to bump into Leviticus around March and that resolution goes out the window. All of Scripture is for our edification, so how is a book full of blood and bells and bulls supposed to relate to us? What if we thought of the book in this way: if my life’s purpose is to live in the presence of the Holy One then how do I approach Him? What would it take for a person, with all of my stuff, to actually live in a face to face relationship with the Triune God?

That is the reason for Leviticus. It answers some fundamental questions about who God is and who we are in relation to Him. In this series, we will be looking at how we can apply this remarkable (and mysterious) book to our lives every week. We recommend that you try to read the book along with us as we work through it together. We promise you it will be a rewarding time. Everything that is truly helpful to our lives takes a bit of work, so let’s dig in and see what Jesus has to show us.

Radical Discipleship

16-radical-discipleship - projector“Radical” is a term we encounter often. Radical Islamic terrorists, radical student protesters, radical activists, radical pro-lifers or radical abortionists. I wouldn’t dare call certain football team proponents ‘radical’ would I? So, basically we use the term for someone who is out of their mind. Someone who truly does not care about anyone else. They are agenda driven – normally at the expense of someone else. But the word ‘radical’ comes from at Latin word “radix” which means “root.” This series – and all we are focused on this year – considers the root, the foundations, the formative elements, the ground, the basis of everything else. What are the unchangeable things about calling ourselves disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ? These are the rudiments that are non-negotiable. They are the things by which we see everything else. They point to the personal and loving agenda of Jesus and that means that we live for others with His mind and His heart. We don’t use others we love and serve them. Let’s be radical!
