What is Our Purpose in Life?
Genesis 1:28 – And God blessed [Adam and Eve]. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over…every living thing that moves on the earth.’ (ESV)
What were the first people called to do?
They were to fill the earth and rule.
What does this mean?
To fill the earth means that we get to reflect God’s love and glory as his image bearers (week 5) to the rest of the world.
To rule over the earth means that we join God in his loving, nurturing rule over creation.
Psalm 37:4 – Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (ESV)
What else does this verse promise us?
This verse promises that if we love God we can enjoy him forever. For those who delight in the Lord, what we most desire is an unbroken relationship with him, which God will give us.
Scripture Memory Verse:
Psalm 37:4 – Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (ESV)
What is our purpose in life?
Our purpose is to delight in the Lord and to join him by reflecting his glory and loving care for creation forever.
