Why Are We Commanded to Make Disciples of all Nations?
Read Jesus’ last words to his disciples:
Matthew 28:18b-20 – All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (ESV)
What does Jesus command his disciples to do?
He commands them to make other disciples.
How do they do what Jesus has told them?
They must go to all the nations. Then they must baptize them and teach them to obey what God has said.
Can we do this by ourselves?
No. We must rely on Jesus who has all authority and will be with us.
When we share the gospel (see week 26), we are joining Jesus in what he is already doing in that person’s life.
Why does Jesus command this?
Jesus desires the entire world to be saved.
Scripture Memory Verse:
Matthew 28:19-20a – Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. (ESV)
Why does Jesus command us to make disciples of all the nations?
Jesus commands us to make disciples of all the nations so that we can join him in bringing salvation to the entire world.
