There will be no services of any kind on Sunday, January 8th due to the impact of the winter storm currently affecting the greater Elizabeth City area. You are encouraged to worship the Lord in your own heart, with family, and with others however possible. Please help us spread the word through all of your contacts so that no one ventures out unadvisedly. Stay safe, keep warm, check on your friends and neighbors, and we will resume our regular worship schedule this week.

2016 EMC Choral Christmas Presentation
Join us Sunday, December 11th during our morning worship service for this year’s choral Christmas presentation, “Almost There: A Christmas Musical,” written by Michael W. Smith.
Christian to the Core
Beginning January 1, 2017 EMC will be diving into Christian to the Core, an 8-week journey to becoming a deeper disciple by increasing your intimacy with God, increasing your love for people, and discovering God’s greater purposes for your life. During this study we will be exploring the Eight Core Values of the most vibrant and dynamic Christians in the world. Not only will this study form the basis of our preaching emphases between New Years and Lent, but my goal is that it will also guide the shared life of our small groups as well.
Each session of Christian to the Core gives biblical foundation, personal reflection, group discussion questions, and practical application. While this study can be done on your own, it is best experienced in a small group where you can study, share, and pray with others.
In the attempt to engage as many of our wonderful EMCers as possible, I recommend one of the following options for everyone at our church:
- Study Christian to the Core in your Life Group. I will be conducting a Life Group facilitators meeting on Wednesday, December 7th at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall to introduce this study to our existing Life Groups.
- Study Christian to the Core in an ad-hoc Life Group. Perhaps you are interested in this study but don’t have an existing group. If that’s the case, I recommend forming one, even if it’s just to spend 8 weeks together working through this wonderful material.
- Study Christian to the Core with Pastor Sean on Sunday nights. He will be leading a group through this study on Sunday nights at the church at 6pm for the duration of the series.
If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us ASAP.

The Scandal of the Incarnation
Advent 2016
There is no greater, more enthralling story than that of the one, true God taking on flesh. All of us have our own story, but to be brought into the drama of God’s own life is pretty overwhelming. In fact, it is unbelievable.
The account, actually, is quite scandalous. Speaking of Bethlehem’s manger, a preacher once asked the question, “What’s a good God like that doing in a place like this?” Maybe you have had the experience of wondering the same thing. Could Jesus actually want to become inseparably connected to the likes of you and me?
In the next four weeks we will be exploring the story of how the Son of God took on our human nature, why He chose the people He did to point to his arrival, and how He enters into the human story, your story. When Jesus enters your scandalous story everything has the possibility of becoming glorious, free, whole. It is a marvelous story, almost too good to be true.
