Richard, his wife of forty-five years, Lois, and their son with Down Syndrome, Michael, moved to North Carolina in 2018. Until then they lived primarily in New Jersey with several years in Pennsylvania. No move compares to the move Richard took from darkness to light as a twenty-something community college student. It was then he heard the Gospel for the first time and eventually experienced the miraculous grace of God.
After coming to faith in Jesus, Richard developed a passion for learning the Bible. He graduated in 1980 with a B.A. in New Testament and Theology from Oral Roberts University. Subsequently he took courses at several seminaries, but the real learning of the Scriptures took place in various ministry and teaching opportunities. It was in ministry at local churches that Richard grew in the desire to help the people of God learn, apply, and walk in the truths revealed in the Word of God.
In addition to studying, Richard enjoyed hiking–until his knee got old! Now he is content to enjoy the outside sitting on the deck reading a good book. Actually, even a not-so-good book will do.
All in all, through the ups and downs of life, Richard has never lost the wonder that the God of all creation would call him into fellowship with himself, and sent his Son to pay the debt of all his sins. In the words of Elizabeth Cecilia Clephane:
Upon the cross of Jesus
mine eye at times can see
the very dying form of One
who suffered there for me:
and from my stricken heart with tears
two wonders I confess,
the wonders of redeeming love
and my unworthiness.
